CONSERVATION OF THE BUILT HERITAGE OF THE CANTON OF VAUD
greenhouse for lausanne’s botanical garden
An atypical volume of 33 m by 5.6 m rising to more than 5 m in height, is incorporated in the botanical garden designed by Alphonse Laverrière, occupying a narrow plot along the botanical garden’s main pathway.
A simple glazed skin encloses an active and complex organism.
With its roof and façade openings and its thermal screens, the greenhouse adjusts permanently to meet the requirements of a tropical climate on one side and accommodate carnivorous plants on the other.
The sobriety of this greenhouse serves the lush collection it accommodates.
Complementing Platforme 10, Lausanne’s new “arts district” that brings together the Musée cantonal des Beaux-arts, the Musée de l’Elysée and the Musée du design et des arts contemporains, the new greenhouse becomes an emblematic element of the Musée et Jardins botaniques cantonaux vaudois (MJBC).
